Bulgaria might not be so popular as much as other destination but it’s for sure a place to visit. The mixture of scenic sights, culture, history, landmark buildings, ski opportunities, festivals, etc… makes it kind of unique. For those who are fond of flowers, the Festival of Roses is not to be missed. Details of our sample itinerary can be found herewith.
Day 1
Sofia – Arrival, transfer from the airport. Half Day City Tour, visiting Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral, St. Sofia 6th century basilica, the Parliament Square , Presidency, St. George 4th century Rotunda & the ruins of Ancient Serdica. Sofia , the capital city of Bulgaria is one of the most ancient cities in Europe , which Constantine the Great once called “My Rome”. More than 250 historical, archaeological and architectural landmarks, 38 museums, 11 theatres, opera, operetta, etc. Free afternoon for own discoveries and shopping. Dinner at a traditional restaurant not far from the hotel and overnight.
Day 2: Sofia / Rila Monastery / Plovdiv (B, L, D)
Departure to Rila Monastery UNESCO site, located at the foothills of Rila Mountain National Park . Tour of the Monastery. Admire wooden balconies, azure fretwork, collonades, facades and colourful frescoes, silhouetted against a fantastic panorama of mountain peaks. Altitude 1147 meters above sea level. Founded in the 10th century. National Historical Reserve since 1976. UNESCO site since 1983. Lunch. Proceed to Plovdiv . Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Plovdiv / Bachkovo / Brestovitsa / Stara Zagora (B, L, D)
Half day tour of Plovdiv – visit the Old Plovdiv Architectural reserve with the Ancient Amphitheatre, St. Constantine and Helena Church, the Ethnographic museum, the workshop of a local potter. Plovdiv is the 2nd largest city in Bulgaria , once capital city of Philip the 2nd of Macedonia , the father of Alexander the Great. The city is contemporary of Troy , and is much older than Athens and Rome . Lunch. Afternoon to Bachkovo monastery – the 2nd largest in Bulgaria , after Rila. Wine tasting at a boutique wine cellar. Proceed to Stara Zagora. Dinner and check in at a 3* hotel. Stara Zagora is the sixth largest city in Bulgaria, a national important economic centre.
Day 4: Stara Zagora / Kazanluk / Sofia (B, L, D)
Early morning departure to the rose fields, rose gathering. Tasting of home made rose honey, explanation of the traditional rose distillery. Tasting of rose and other essential oils, Bulgarian pastry with cheese, liquor and rose jam, yoghurt. Each participant receives certified rose oil. Visit the Rose museum. Visit Goliama Kosmatka Thracian Tomb and the church of Shipka . Lunch barbeque with folklore performance. Afternoon to see Gardening centre ‘Thracian Buksus’, with different types of roses or First private cosmetics factory for rose products, demonstration of the production. Departure to Sofia. Evening arrival. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Departure Transfer
